Tomo Sushi & Grill sits quietly tucked in Carson City’s Clearview Drive shopping area, offering a solid sushi dining experience that draws locals from across the region. This restaurant balances casual, family-friendly vibes with a menu that leans heavily on classic sushi options alongside some grilled and bento selections, making it a practical spot for both sushi lovers and those looking for comforting Japanese-inspired meals.

The atmosphere is straightforward and unpretentious—inside, you’ll find functional seating suited to groups and families, with a layout that can adapt to larger parties without much trouble. It’s not the place for a romantic date with ambiance as the main event; instead, it works well for casual get-togethers, family outings, or sushi enthusiasts eager to enjoy a satisfying meal without any fuss.

What stands out here is the all-you-can-eat sushi option, particularly popular with families and groups who want to sample a wide spectrum of rolls, nigiri, and small appetizers. The quality shows through with notably fresh salmon and a decent range of classic rolls like California, Rainbow, and Tekka Maki, as well as more playful items such as the Donald Duck Nigiri or the Spicy Crystal Shrimp. For those looking for something hearty beyond sushi, the Beef Teriyaki Bento or Tempura Udon provide a warm, filling alternative.

Visits often happen around lunch or early dinner when the spot is lively but not overwhelming. The pacing of dishes is steady, and staff manage larger groups with relative ease, though some menu details might require a bit of patience as servers juggle inquiries and orders. For those who enjoy pairing their meal with a beer, options like Kirin Ichiban, Sapporo, or Stella Artois are a fitting complement without overshadowing the meal.

Families and locals appreciate Tomo Sushi & Grill as a dependable option where the kids can dive into a multi-roll feast while adults enjoy the value and selection. The unassuming setting and approachable menu make it less about flair and more about straightforward satisfaction—especially for those who prioritize fresh sushi in a no-pressure environment. If you’re in Carson City craving well-priced, consistent sushi with enough variety to keep regular visits interesting, Tomo fits that bill well.

I have eaten here at LEAST 15 times since we moved to Tahoe last year! I have tried a lot of sushi places, and this is hands-down the best sushi I've ever had. Not once have I been disappointed by the food here! AYCE is the only way I eat sushi, and it's such a great price here! The salmon is always buttery and amazing. There's plenty of sushi up in Tahoe, but I always drive down to Carson for this place because it's just the best. If I ever move out of the area, I'm genuinely going to be sad to leave Tomo behind.

My husband and I loved bringing our three kids here whenever we're in Carson City. To feed our family of ravenous coyotes, it's a no-brainer. Our kids love the all-you-can-eat-sushi and appetizers and we love the value! Come hungry!!

I haven't been to Tomo Sushi in probably decades, but decided to give it a try. It's got a lot better over the years. The place looks about the same inside. The service was very good, though the server had a little trouble recognizing what nigiri was what, beyond the obvious salmon. We came for lunch which is priced at $27.95 per person, the usual rules apply about wasting food and leaving rice on the plate. But what was nice is they don't overload the rice here. I ordered mostly nigiri and the little rice ball was welcome as opposed to that big loaf of rice and thin piece of fish on top at some places. All the fish tasted fresh and tender. The mussels were a nice surprise, served in spoons already taken out of their shells. Those were tasty and easy to deal with, without the shells. Sitting at at table, you just fill out the order sheet of what you want on the all you can eat option. They didn't forget any items either. I'll make more of an effort to remember to come here for sushi when in Carson City.

First time there. Party of 8 so they had to shift tables around. Was swiftly accomplished. No problem with separate checks. Delicious food. We did all you can eat sushi...The main waitress was efficient and pleasant. We all talked about going back at least once-a- month!

I took my mom here and we ate several rolls, all of these I highly recommend....Geisha, Tahoe, Summertime, and two others I cannot remember. I was shocked the taste is fresh and interesting. I didn't have really high expectations for this tiny place in Carson City, maybe it was because we came on and all you can eat sushi night. Rather than doing all you can eat, we ordered the five rolls. To my surprise it was excellent, we almost finished everything, just the two of us! The sushi is delicious and fresh. I recommend the nigori sake. Yum yum.

A local favorite. Fast service, the art in the wall is absolutely gorgeous, and the sushi AMAZING. And if you’re not feeling sushi there are other options like their bento boxes, or udon noodles!
